Blessed 58th National Day, Singapore!

“Righteousness exalts a nation; When the righteous increase, the people rejoice…” – Proverbs 14:34a; 29:2a (ESV)

No country celebrates its birthday as we do. Saturday after Saturday, our SAF fighter jets roar magnificently across the skies, and the helicopters proudly carry the Singapore Flag in its familiar path over the city. By 8 pm in the evening the city sky breaks out with a riot of spectacular colours from the expansive fireworks, and echoes the thunderous burst of pride and elation as celebrants watch in expectant joyous awe. The serial practice on Saturdays look forward to the finale climaxing on 9th August, Singapore’s 58th National Day!

Singapore Charismatic Renewal Started in 1972

Mr Thomas Franks, husband of EAST alumna, Ms Hannah Zhong, produced (and initially researched and wrote) a church history documentary video on the Charismatic renewal movement that started in 1972, dubbed Revival 1972: When the Holy Spirit stirred the schools of Singapore.

In the words of Thomas, “By documenting the sovereign move of the Holy Spirit in Singapore starting in 1972, the video aims to inspire the next generation to seek God & His purposes. So far, the documentary has had an amazing impact at live screenings in churches even over this weekend [of 23-24 July 2022]! … As we honour & remember God’s work in the past, may we also look ahead in hope to what God will do both now & in the future!”

Happy 55th National Day, Singapore!

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Saviour. For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations. (1 Timothy 2:1-3; Psalm 22:28, ESV)

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance. Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honour the emperor. God opposes the proud but shows favour to the humble.” (Psalm 33:12; 1 Peter 2:17; James 4:6b, NIV).

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14, ESV)

Happy 55th National Day, Singapore!

Blessed to be a Blessing

On Pentecost Sunday (31 May 2020), The Blessing Singapore premiered on YouTube, sung by 772 singers from 177 Churches and Movements in Singapore. These Christians have come together “to sing a blessing over our land” based on Numbers 6:22-27. The Bible reminds us that as we have been blessed, we need to be His channel of blessings to others. According to The Blessing SG YouTube channel,

It has been beautiful to see how the Singapore church has risen to love and care for the city, from supplying thousands of meals, masks and giving donations, to opening their churches for the homeless, and to the many unseen acts of love and kindness. As we continue to do so, it is on many of our hearts to now gift to the nation a prayer and a song, to bring hope and speak blessing.

An EAST staff is among those who sang it together with the larger community of Christians. Can you spot Agnes? Click the photo above or the video below to watch the blessing being sung. Shalom.
