Happy 56th National Day, Singapore!

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!
– Psalm 33:12, ESV

Happy 56th Birthday, Singapore! Together our Singapore Spirit! God bless our Nation! 🇸🇬

Let’s celebrate our unity as a country of diverse cultures.

Together, we will rise from these uncertain times… we did it before, and we will do it again.

In the Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s National Day Message 2021 to the nation, he noted:

The fight against COVID-19 has taken a toll on all of us. Now, more than ever, we need to watch out for one another, for signs of fatigue, distress or anguish among our friends and family. We should have the courage to ask for help ourselves if we need it.

As followers of Christ, the advice of PM Lee resonates in our desire to show practical love one to another within the Church and also to our neighbours regardless of whether they are Christians or otherwise. We are to love our neighbours as ourselves during pandemic and also during “ordinary times” (Mark 12:31; Matthew 22:39; Luke 10:27).

PM Lee also noted the “uniquely harmonious, multiracial society” in Singapore, due to deliberate cultivation of social and religious harmony among the various races and faiths as part of nation building. He further said:

It took several generations of sustained effort to bring our races and religions together, and grow the common space that we now share. This harmony did not result from every group stridently insisting on its identity and rights; it was the fruit of mutual understanding and compromise by all parties – the majority as well as the minorities.

Christians are to lead a life of peace and to be peacemakers as exemplified by the Lord Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace (Matthew 5:9; 1 Timothy 2:1-2; Hebrews 12:14; 1 Peter 3:11; Isaiah 9:6). Thus followers of Christ are to be agents of peace who seek to build bridges of understanding and blessings in deepening relationships across cultural, racial, and religious lines if at all possible.
