Getting to know Dr Benson and Mrs Josephine Goh

Dr Benson Goh (professor of Greek and New Testament studies) and his wife, Josephine (Mentoring Group coordinator), helped organize the “Discipling the Young in Today’s Digital World” webinar. They also spoke at the webinar together with the keynote speaker, Dr Felicia Tay, a clinical psychologist from a public hospital. It was attended by more than 280 participants. Recently, we got up close and personal with Ben and Jo, as they are called by friends and colleagues.

To begin with, how did they meet? In school, where else!

Ben and Jo met as undergraduates during their respective Engineering and Business studies on Nanyang Technological University (NTU). As they got to know each other more through their love for Christ and involvement with Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ), friendship blossomed into love.

Happy Teachers’ Day

The first Friday of September has been designated as Teachers’ Day in Singapore since 2011. Prior to that, Teachers’ Day used to fall on 1 September. The first Friday of September has now been an official school holiday in public schools for the past nine years. This #WeekendGoodRead is taken from a local Christian blog, a post written by a Teacher turned Pastor, Ps Low Kok Guan from Bethesda (Bedok-Tampines) Church.

In the post, he reflects on what he wished he knew before he had joined teaching and gave tips to young teachers and those perhaps considering the teaching the profession on how he managed to teach for 10 years before he answered the call to serve God full-time.

It is easy to be in a hurry to meet deadlines, and to rush for appointments when we slowly return to a “new normal” of coping with the Covid-19 situation wherever we are. In Singapore, during the Circuit Breaker period, many things kind of came to a standstill and people were in less of a hurry. Even the ERP (Electronic Road Pricing) charges, road tolls, were waived because traffic was lessened. The ERP charges will soon be restored as traffic flow has increased and people are again in more of a hurry and rush, especially during peak hours.

Esther’s Story – His Story

“I was six years old when my oldest brother, then 26, read the Bible and accepted Jesus as his Saviour,” begins Esther, 30, who is of Central Asian descent. “My parents, of another beliefs, felt very betrayed by him.” But her brother remained steadfast in faith and led hundreds in their hometown to the Lord. Six years later, Esther then 12, received Christ on her own when she chanced upon a gospel tract. In 2010, her father came to Christ in a Christmas meeting organised by her brother; soon after her mother accepted the Lord through her father.
