Inter-Collegiate Games Day 2023

  • Amos Chew, 1st year MA in Leadership. Football team leader of EAST, and emcee at eOpen House 2023.

After four years, the Inter Collegiate Games(ICG) 2023 resumed on the 3rd of March. Inter-collegiate games are sports competitions between different bible colleges or seminaries. These games can be a great opportunity for students to represent their school and showcase their abilities. The ICG comprises 5 competitive games and 1 indoor activity. Alongside these activities, there were snacks and ice cream provided by the host school, Singapore Bible College, for family, friends and alumni who came down to cheer and support their loved ones.

There was excitement when it was announced that ICG will be held this year! However, the excitement isn’t uniform. Some were excited because ICG is an event that unifies Singapore’s different seminaries, others were excited to be able to just play sports, and others were excited by the prospect of displaying their talents and getting the first prize and more. The motivations behind one’s excitement are an interesting insight because from those motivations we will be able to track one’s personal understanding of the purpose of the ICG.

CNY MG Outreach 2023

On 1 Feb 2023, the eleventh day of the Chinese New Year, five Mentoring Groups (MG) together with the Advancement and Academic staff went to the Joo Chiat neighbourhood with goodie bags of groceries and CNY greeting cards as a blessing for the community.

We had opportunities to interact with the residents and shop keepers in our neighbourhood. For our new international students, it was an eye-opening learning experience to be part of this outreach to connect with our neighbours this festive season. This has provided a bonding time to serve together as an MG. Read more

Adjunct Faculty: Cambodia EEC Teaching Reflections

4th November 2022 was a special day for me. Not only it was a day where I took to flying after close to three years of pandemic restriction, it was also the day that EAST Extension Centre (EEC) could conduct classes on location. The class in Cambodia was probably the first to meet face to face since the pandemic.

I was there to teach New Testament Narratives class to a cohort of students taking Master of Arts in Leadership and Graduate Diploma. This cohort started in 2018 and they are mostly Christian workers. There are organisation leaders, church planters, teachers, Crusade staff and even a missionary from Singapore who has been in Cambodia for 19 years. Before the pandemic, EAST sent instructors to Cambodia several times a year to cover the modules necessary for them to complete their programme.

EAST Ministry Weekend 2022

The world is entering a new ‘normalcy’ of living with the Covid 19 endemic.  Borders restrictions are lifted in most countries and we are seeing a travel ‘revenge’ after battling the Covid 19 pandemic the past three years. The Office of Mentoring at EAST, which used to send Mentoring Groups (MG) for weekend mission trips, decided that by faith, they will start these trips again. Six MGs were divided into five teams and they were sent to Medan, Batam, & Jakarta in Indonesia, Chiang Rai in Thailand and Sarawak in East Malaysia during the Sept 16 – 19 weekend. These trips aimed to help each group to learn precious lessons in  “classroom without walls” settings – bonding with each other, serving together, enhancing the faculty mentors’ and students’ spiritual formation in their lives, relationships, service, and reflection of their walk with God.
