Adolescence & Risky Behaviours in the Digital Age (Onsite)

25 November to 4 December 2026, 9.00 am – 5.00 pm
(from Wednesday to the following Friday, excluding Saturday and Sunday)

The course explores research on the relationship between digital technology use and mental health, emphasizing how offline factors shape online risks and contribute to inequalities among youth. Students will analyze the effects of digital engagement on adolescents’ physical health, mental well-being, social skills, and school adjustment. In addition, the course examines parenting styles, guidance strategies, and digital mediation, highlighting the importance of media literacy, social support, and community involvement in protecting adolescents. By the end of the course, students will be able to understand, assess, and respond to adolescents’ digital behaviors, applying developmental, relational, and contextual perspectives across educational, family, and community settings.

Hee Sun Jackie Kim, PhD, CPCC, ATR, is a registered counsellor and art therapist in the U.S., an internationally certified crisis intervention life coach, founder of Elim Centre in Singapore, and adjunct faculty at East Asia School of Theology. She has practiced as a clinical psychotherapist specializing in addiction and supporting victims of violence, and has taught at Adler Graduate School in the U.S. as adjunct faculty. With over 25 years of experience serving adolescents and youth, Dr. Kim specializes in developmental, relational, and faith-based approaches. She provides counselling and coaching for individuals, couples, and families, and develops educational programs for Christian communities. She is also actively ministering and preaching to youth at Nasum Church in Singapore.

Update on Tuvshuu & Burnee

Over a week ago, on 7 November, Tuvshuu and Burnee, EAST Alumni from 2018 welcomed the arrival of their third child and youngest son named Tergel. In Mongolian, “Tergel” means “full moon”. He has been given this name in the hope that his life will fully reflect God’s light, just like how the full moon reflects the light of the sun. Also, that his life will be full of light and be complete like the “full moon”. His arrival has already brought much light and completion to the Tsogtbaatars, living up to his name.
