The 5 Things – 五件事

Would you like to know the five things needed for success in ministry?

你是否知道五件事情让你的事工得成吗?

Ms Holly Sheldon, the speaker, said: “5 things to help you think through your unique gifts and talents, how to involve yourself in meaningful community, and ways you can make God known wherever He may lead you. It is definitely a process, but if you are fully surrendered to Christ and apply these things, you will have significant impact both now and in the years to come.”

Come, watch the 6 min. video on how to do so. More resources by Cru Campus on living missionally may be found here

Worldwide Day of Prayer 2017

Have you ever been so focused in meeting ministry needs that you missed out on God’s presence and empowerment? Cru and EAST intentionally sets aside days of prayer to “pause” ministry for all staff, students, and members and seek God’s face in prayerful dependence on Him.

The recent Worldwide Day of Prayer (WDOP) on 3 October 2017 was co-hosted by Cru Singapore and EAST. The theme was “Open Our Eyes.” In John 4:35, Jesus says, “I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” We are to open our eyes and pray to the LORD of the harvest to mobilize workers to the harvest field (Matt. 9:37-38) even as the fields are ripe for harvest.

Our alumnus, Dr Samuel Too, spoke on the spiritual empowerment of doing God’s will resulting in fruitful harvest by Christ’s disciples (John 4:31-38). Praise God! ???

Glory to God Alone – Soli Deo Gloria

In recognition of the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, the theme for EAST Chapel Service this semester is the “Five Solas.” At a recent Chapel, Dr Raymond Song, an EAST Resident Faculty, spoke on “Glory to God Alone.”

He illustrated the need for believers, churches, and Christian organizations to do all things only for God’s glory through the life of Johann Sebastian Bach, a believer and German composer and musician of the Baroque period (1600-1750 AD). A particularly famous and moving piece is the “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.” Johann would pen J.J. at the beginning of each piece he composed and S.D.G. at the end. J.J. stands for “Jesus Juva” in Latin which means “Jesus Help Me.” S.D.G. is “Soli Deo Gloria” or “For the Glory of God Alone.”

May we be challenged to humbly and consistently do all for His glory only.

ETHOS Conference 2017 – Justice & the Common Good

* NOTE CHANGE OF CONFERENCE DATE TO 30 SEP 2017 *

“But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream” (Amos 5:24). Justice is one of the most important themes in the Bible! Justice flows from the very heart and character of the God who reveals himself in its pages. What is biblical justice? How can the Church bear witness to the just God in a world tainted by such gross injustice? How can Christians work towards the common good in the wake of suspicion, alienation and discrimination? This conference seeks to address these and many other issues.

Date & Time: Sat, 30 Sep 2017, 9am–5.30pm (Registration opens at 8.30am)

Venue: Trinity Theological College, 490 Upper Bukit Timah Road, S678093

For conference schedule, details & registration, please visit ethosinstitute.sg/commongood. Entry by registration only. Registration closes on 28 Sep 2017. Contact us at 6304 3765 or email info@ethosinstitute.sg or visit ethosinstitute.sg for further updates.
