Alumni Updates from Ukhrul, Manipur

EAST alumni Asung Pharung and Nim Muivah graduated in May 2019 with a Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies and Partners in Ministry Certificate respectively. They have since returned to life in a small town, Ukhrul, Manipur, Northeast India with a population of 92,000 people. Just last Saturday, the Pharungs welcomed their third child, a newborn baby girl named Selah Pharung on 16 Jan 2021. Life has indeed been full and fruitful for them.

As a couple, they have set up a community library for children in their town to promote literacy and draw the children away from their digital devices. Their initiative has been successful and was even featured in a well-known local news publication Indian Express.

The Covid-19 pandemic has also given them a new online platform in media ministry where testimonies, sermons and music are shared in their mother tongue, Tangkhul Naga dialect. It has helped broadened their outreach, especially during the lockdown when people had to stay home. Amazingly, their YouTube platform continues to be used of God to reach out to the community.

Below are some of Asung’s ministry prayer requests:

  • Pray that we will be able to continually provide books for toddlers to teenagers. We are praying that God will raise donors to buy books and for library maintenance.
  • Pray for us as we are planning to record testimonies and stories in a video form to share God’s handiwork and the gospel.
  • Pray that we will be able to continue producing weekly gospel messages by different preachers.

Please email EAST Alumni Office if you are led to partner with Asung in prayers and/or financial support.
