Myanmar-Indo Mission Trip Reflection
During the December break when many students take the opportunity to return to their homelands to visit family and friends, there were three North East Indian students Athem, Achui, and Themreiso who decided to spend some time ministering to Myanmar refugees at the Myanmar-Indo border to help meet physical needs and share the love of Jesus Christ with them. Below are reflections by Athem, a leader and organiser of the mission trip, and Themreiso as a team member.
“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve Myanmar refugees at the Indian border, who have fled war and poverty. Despite their circumstances, I saw them as individuals with dreams and aspirations, just like us. However, their situation has left them vulnerable physically and spiritually. During this trip, I witnessed God’s remarkable power in several ways. He provided for our financial needs, protected us amidst danger, and saw God supernaturally moved hearts in response to the good news of Jesus Christ. Praise God for those who accepted Christ as their Saviour which constitutes 90% of whom we ministered to.
This experience humbled me, reminding me that God’s ways are mysterious and profound. I realized that His love transcends borders and cultures, testifying to His missionary heart. He works in His own ways and fulfills His purposes in His own time. What touched my heart deeply was the overwhelming response of gratitude from the Myanmar refugees. Their appreciation for our simple acts of love and kindness was a powerful reminder of the impact we can have on others when done out of Christ’s love. Moreover, the times of fun and fellowship we shared with the team and the refugees strengthened our bonds and grew our love and attachment for one another. This experience taught me the profound power of loving actions, which can transform lives and communities.
As I reflected on this experience, I could not help but feel a sense of urgency to invite others to join us on this journey. The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. I invite you to prayerfully consider joining us on our next trip, that together we may serve as instruments of God’s love and redemption.”
Themreiso, a first-year Master of Arts in Christian Ministry student, joined the outreach team and has this to say about his experience:
“I recognized both the urgency and the opportunity to share the Gospel, which led me to feel a strong calling to join in reaching out to the Myanmar refugees. Having known Athem and Achui well, I was eager to be a part of their efforts to minister to the refugees. I believe that by joining them, not only will I be a blessing to others, but I will also experience great joy in serving alongside them. So, I decided to join them in this mission.
My experience with our team has been outstanding. One thing I have realized is that our ministry flourished because we had open communication, prayed for one another, shared one spirit, and worked in harmony. We were also teachable and encouraged each other. Through sharing the Gospel, many souls were saved. In all of this, I knew that God was with us, leading us, and working through us for His kingdom. Without a doubt, I will encourage others to join me on future trips.”
