EAST was very honoured to have Dr Robert K MacEwen return as an Adjunct Faculty to teach an intensive course on the Exposition of Matthew from 22 November to 1 December which just ended last week. Dr Rob had travelled from The Netherlands with his wife Dr Lisa in the midst of a busy term time from Tyndale Theological Seminary where he is the Academic Dean to serve the students at EAST. EAST News caught up with him on a short interview below and his student Letitia wrote a short reflection on what she had learnt from the class.

1. What were the years you taught at EAST, what subjects did you teach, and what are some favourite memories you have of EAST?
I taught at EAST as a resident faculty member from 2010 through 2016, a time when EAST was at the Dorset Road campus. Since then I have been back a few times to teach module courses as an adjunct faculty member. The courses I’ve taught at EAST have included New Testament Narratives, New Testament Epistles and Revelation, New Testament Apologetics, Exposition of the Gospel of Matthew, Interpreting the Synoptic Gospels, Greek, Greek Exegesis, and Exegesis of 1 & 2 Thessalonians.
Graduate’s Story – Kang Hye-Won, Grad Dip ICS 2023
“The journey toward self-discovery is life’s greatest adventure” (Arianna Huffington, author, columnist and businesswoman).
Upon graduating from university in Korea, Kang Hye-Won moved to Sydney, Australia, and worked in the city’s ubiquitous sandwich shops to support himself.
Purpose? To become someone God could use.
Worldwide Day of Prayer 2023
On Tuesday, 3 October 2023, EAST and Cru Singapore came together for a Worldwide Day of Prayer (WDP). Conducted twice yearly by all Cru ministries globally, it was a blessed time of communion with God and fellow co-labourers in the Lord.
The prayer theme was “The Battle Belongs to the Lord,” based on 2 Chronicles 20:15. The WDP consisted of three parts: 1) Morning – Prayer & Worship together reflecting on 2 Chronicles 20:1-22; 2) Lunch & Prayer Time in small groups of five to six; 3) Afternoon – Prayer Walk around the town area.

Welcoming The Winslows Back!

Matthew and Sze Chieh Winslows together with their children Hudson, Amber and Alethea have spent the last six years in the United States as Matthew pursued his PhD Studies at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. While they were there, EAST News had done an interview with the family. Now that they are back, EAST welcomes the family back to EAST and find out how they are doing. Below is a short update.
- How has the transition been for your family from living in the US for the past six years?
Matthew: We really enjoyed our time in the US and had a great community there at our church in the Chicago area, so we miss our friends. I also love the change of seasons in the US and the space so I miss both of those things as well. But in coming back to Singapore, we have enjoyed reconnecting with old friends. We’ve also enjoyed eating some good Asian food here.

Japheth Chew is no stranger to road trips.
Before EAST, he had lived in Brisbane (Australia), Kansas City (USA), and Swansea (Wales) for missions, worship and prayer training.
Besides serving for three years in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with YWAM and Open Doors, he ministered among the disadvantaged in Darjeeling (West Bengal), and Mother Theresa’s “Missionaries of Charities” in Calcutta for three months. He also served for a year in missions at Cornerstone Community Church in Singapore.
This early exposure has given him a hunger to “keep learning new things.”
