MA Student Themreiso L Awungshi: More Than Assignments, Living the Dream God Planted in Me
Below is a reflection by Master of Arts in Biblical Studies Student Themreiso L Awungshi from Manipur, Northeast India, from what he had gleaned from his time at EAST.
The last month has been deeply humbling and faith-strengthening for me. I have seen spiritual leaders around me live out their faith with love, concern, and passion for God’s work and their lives have inspired me to walk more closely with God.
On the first day of class, I saw our professor, Dr. Roland—a loving, caring teacher and experienced leader—cleaning the ground with a water hose. His humble act of service demonstrated true servant leadership. I was deeply moved and inspired to become like him. It reminded me of Jesus’ words: “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant”(Matthew 20:26, NIV).

At East Asia School of Theology, our studies are not just about head knowledge; they shape our heart and hands too. Dr.Ying Kheng taught us to pray: “I can’t. You can. I will.” This simple prayer helps me trust God more and rely less on myself.
In our first chapel, Rev. Dr. Chan Chong Hiok preached on “Building the Altar of God” in daily life—meeting God even in our studies and assignments. His message reminded me to love God more than simply completing my assignments.
I ended last month with a grateful heart for God’s guidance and the people He has placed in my life to shape me. Please continue to pray for my studies and health, that my love for God and heart for His kingdom will grow, and that I will be well-equipped for His glory.
“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6 ESV).
God also provided a new coach for my studies, Siah Chuan, who simply said,“I have time.” His weekly commitment has encouraged me to take my studies more seriously. He reminded me that ‘I’m already living my dream’ serving others and learning God’s Word in a place where I can grow holistically.
