Alumni Retreat 2017

At the inaugural EAST Alumni Retreat, local and international alumni attended the two-day retreat with Dr John Oswalt being the speaker for the plenary sessions. The theme was “Ministering for the Long Haul.” Dr Oswalt is the Visiting Distinguished Professor of Old Testament, Asbury Theological Seminary and was in town to hood Jeremy Chew, EAST resident faculty, as part of the PhD conferral ceremony.

The sessions included the following topics:

  • Session 1 – The Minister’s Relationship to God
  • Session 2 – The Minister’s Relationship to Discouragement
  • Session 3 – The Minister’s Relationship to Truth
  • Session 4 – The Minister’s Relationship to Love

The morning devotional speaker was Dr Rick Langston who imparted his message through a video recording from his home in the US. A founding faculty of EAST, Rick personally exemplified his own exhortation to “Run the Race to Win!” He reminded us to continually obey God’s call to serve Him faithfully in integrity all the days of our lives. Rick drew inspiration from the Apostle Paul, who declared that success in the race of life and ministry is not due to the runner’s speed–how fast–but on how one runs it.

On the second day of the Retreat, Mr Lim Aik Ghee unveiled the launching of the EAST Alumni Association. Aik Ghee is the Alumni Chaplain and was able to form the pro-tem committee from the alumni present towards a formal organisation.

On the eve of the retreat, the Alumni Homecoming Dinner saw the gathering of alumni near and far for a fellowship that was so, oh, sweet and wonderful!

We praise God for the success of the inaugural EAST Alumni Homecoming. Soli Deo gloria!
