Learn to use tools and methods that will make you a better informed and more accurate interpreter of the Old Testament, and be equipped with some fundamentals of Hebrew. Open to all except MDiv Teaching and Exposition program students. Pre-requisite or concurrent with: BS510 Bible Study Methods and Hermeneutics.

Chin Hong received his PhD in Theological Studies (Old Testament concentration) from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (USA). He is excited about equipping others for Old Testament studies through the acquisition and use of Biblical Hebrew.

New Testament Narratives (Day Course)

NT510 New Testament Narratives (3 credits)
Thursdays: 2.00 pm-5.30pm, 18 July to 18 November 2016

This course is a study of the life of Christ in the four Gospels as well as the early church and spread of Christianity in the book of Acts. The course will help you better understand the historical and cultural background, give you a deeper understanding of the Jesus’s teachings and ministry, and an appreciation for God’s work in building His Church. Pre-requisite: BS510 Bible Study Methods and Hermeneutics.

Amy has taught Bible and theological classes since 2002. She has been on the pastoral team at St. John’s – St. Margaret’s Church. She teaches both in her own church and in other churches. She enjoys studying and teaching the Bible and desires for students to handle the Bible accurately, not just know content but that the Word of God will change their lives.

Greek Exegesis and Intermediate Grammar (Day Course)

NT503 Greek Exegesis and Intermediate Grammar (3 credits)
Thursdays: 2.00 pm-5.30 pm, 18 July to 18 November 2016

Builds upon NT502 to deepen the student’s comprehension of New Testament Greek and strengthen the student’s ability to use Greek in exegesis. Students learn and apply a systematic method of New Testament exegesis for a ministry of preaching and/or teaching.  Through the study of selected New Testament passages representing various genres, students develop greater proficiency in using tools for accurate exegesis. Pre-requisite: NT502 Greek 2: Basics of Greek Grammar.

Tan Hock Seng has taught Greek at many Singapore Bible Schools since 1994.  He earned his ThD in Biblical Studies (New Testament) from the Asia Baptist Graduate Theological Seminary.

a. First Course Free@EAST (“the Promotion”) is applicable for use by visiting students only and can be used only once during the promotion period.

LF562 Marriage & Family Counselling (3 credits)
16–28 May 2016, Mondays-Saturdays, 9.00 am to 3.30 pm

Cell group leaders, elders, Christian workers, and pastors may be asked to counsel couples or families. This course looks into issues related to marriage and family, presents principles of intervention and imparts basic counselling skills through case study, counselling demonstrations and other means.  It also fortifies the biblical teachings on the matter and discusses pertinent cases like marital conflict, discipleship at home, adolescence issues, discipline issues, children of divorcees, domestic abuse, and ageing.

Rod Santos, DMin

Rod is a counsellor with FamilyLife Philippines and Living Waters Philippines. In addition to his counselling responsibilities, he teaches at the International School of Leadership (Philippines), serves as pulpit pastor at Greenhills Christian Fellowship, and authored Turned Off by Church: What Hurts People and What Would Heal Them. He is married and has two daughters.
