EAST Chapel Service

“The Balanced Life” is the theme for the current semester of Chapel services. At the last Chapel, a panel of students and staff shared perspectives on their attempt to maintain such a balance with life and academia. Questions were also taken from those in attendance. Kudos to the Mentoring Group team who organized and led the Chapel time. Special thanks to Jonathan Ang for his moderating the panel discussion.

Greek Tools and Methods

The Greek Tools and Methods course equips Bible students to dig deep using biblical language yet with a gentler learning curve. The teacher, Dr. Rob MacEwen, has other academic interests as well which include the Synoptic Gospels and the relationships between Acts and Paul’s letters.

Dr. MacEwen, formerly a missionary, has just published an academic book, “Matthean Posteriority: An Exploration of Matthew’s Use of Mark and Luke as a Solution to the Synoptic Problem,” which is available from Amazon.com.

Old Testament Wisdom Literature
Posted by jaclyn on February 2, 2016 · Leave a Comment
How does the Old Testament Wisdom Literature remain relevant and applicable to current times in Asia? Dr. Rico Villanueva, the course teacher, introduced the books of Job, parts of the Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs and led the class in discerning their use in our own culture.

Wives Of EAST Students Are Developed Too
Posted by jonathan on January 22, 2016 · Leave a Comment
“Seminaries are cemeteries for wives of students.”
That is how some wives of seminary students feel. While husbands are busy with studies, wives are left alone to care for young children at home. The wives’ development and marriage relationships are neglected. One consequence: graduates receive not only a degree but also a divorce certificate at the end.
At EAST, we do not want such a scenario to take place. We want our full-time students and their wives to thrive and grow.
The Partners In Ministry (PIM) program was developed out of a firm conviction that married couples called into vocational ministry would benefit tremendously when they share the same vision and serve alongside each other. We recognize the vital role and contribution that wives have in complementing their husbands’ ministries. We seek, therefore, to inspire and equip wives to embrace this calling. We also want to inspire husbands to fully support their wives in this pursuit. At the end of their studies, both husbands and wives can joyfully receive their certificates together. Read more
