Student’s Testimony: Field Supervisors’ Tea 2025

Field Education is an important aspect of theological education at EAST. Students practice what they have learnt in class through actual field ministry under the supervision of Field Supervisors from churches, mission agencies, and like-minded organisations. An annual Field Supervisors’ Tea was held recently at EAST to thank them and recount the impact of students’ field ministry. Below is a student’s testimony of his field ministry. Here is Fred’s story:

St. Andrews Cathedral is a very beautiful church in Singapore, located right beside City Hall MRT station. I have brought several friends there when they came to visit Singapore. They all liked this place very much and enjoyed taking photos there. During those visits, I also noticed many tourists taking photos. But after taking pictures, they just left. No one gave them any gospel tracts, and no one shared the gospel with them. When I saw that, my heart felt very burdened. I remembered the Bible says, My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.I also thought of the saying, If someone comes to a treasure mountain, how can they leave empty-handed?They already came to the church, yet they did not hear the gospel. What a pity that is!

Later, I was told that EAST required each student to serve an internship in a church. At that time, the burden in my heart was: If only I could share the gospel with those tourists. After asking around at the church, I heard that there was already a ministry like this. So on one morning in May, I went to the cathedral. I found a quiet corner, knelt down, and prayed, Lord, if what I desire to do is pleasing to You, please lead me.While I was praying, suddenly someone called my name. I opened my eyes in surprise and saw brother Mark. He smiled and asked, What are you doing here?I said, I heard that there is a ministry to share the gospel with tourists, but I am new here and I dont know anyone, so I am praying and asking God to lead me.He said, You must be talking about brother John. Let me bring you to meet him.Thank God, so wonderfully, I was brought into this ministry.

In July and August, many tourists came, and each time I could give out many gospel booklets. One day in July, I was handing out tracts as usual, but that day all the tourists were in a hurry. No one was willing to stop and listen, so I had no chance to share the gospel. As I watched them rushing by, I felt sad and prayed, Lord, please give me a chance. Let them stop and hear Your gospel.Right after that prayer, a sudden heavy rain came, and all the tourists were stuck inside the church. When I joyfully invited them to listen to the gospel, many of them said, Okay, please tell us about Jesus, we have nowhere to go now.So I shared the gospel with one group. After sharing, I invited them to believe in Jesus. They all said they needed more time to think. Just as I was about to leave, two young men came to me and asked, Sir, what you just shared with them, can you also explain it clearly to us?Of course I was willing. After I shared the gospel with them in detail, both of them said they wanted to believe in Jesus. Hallelujah! With a heart full of gratitude, I led them in a prayer, and we exchanged contact information. After they returned to their hometown, they even shared the gospel booklet with many of their friends. Hallelujah, our God is amazing!

In just two months, July and August, God used me to give out 236 gospel booklets, to fully share the gospel with more than ten people, and to lead three people to believe in Christ. I also joined the churchs series of gospel gatherings and witnessed 16 people believing in Christ. During this time, I truly experienced Jesuspromise: I am with you always.Hallelujah, our Lord is the true and living God. May all praise and glory be to Him alone!”
