This course is a study of the underlying principles and theological presuppositions of the global Christian mission. It provides theological foundations for the global mission of the church and will attempt to help students unify and integrate a wide range of theological themes in and around the issues of Christian missions. Basic issues that confront the missionary will be investigated, as well as the more complex and contemporary issues.

 

Raymond Song, PhD, served with Cru for 15 years in the USA and Japan (Tokyo and Osaka), and in pastoral ministry among Korean-American churches for 19 years. He and his wife, Justine Han, also served with the Distance Education program at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (USA). Raymond and Justine are blessed with two adult children.

This course seeks, from a biblical and psychological perspective, to address the range of problem issues that are likely to arise in the course of helping people in their struggles and needs. It will address the foundational areas of what constitute mental health, the place and value of emotions, sin, suffering and psychopathology. It will include personal, interpersonal and developmental issues such as grief and loss, stress, burnout and depression, anxiety and fears, low self-esteem and pride, guilt and shame, anger and addictions, marital conflicts, infidelity and divorce.

Danny Goh, PhD, has been in the full-time vocational ministry for over 40 years. He served as pastor in a couple of churches and as an associate professor in two seminaries. He officially retired from full-time vocational ministry in Dec 2020 and is currently doing a freelance ministry of counseling and mentoring, teaching and training. After receiving his theological training (BTh.Hons and MABS), he furthered his education by specializing in marriage and family, obtaining both an MA and PhD from the School of Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary, USA. He is married to Nancy for over 39 years, and they have two married daughters, and a grandson.

This course explores what the soul needs, and how one must be its keeper and steward. The students will look deeper at how they must develop spiritual habits that train their soul to pause, create space for God to speak to them, and bring healing and formation to their lives.

Auditors are expected to complete the asynchronous portions of each week’s lesson so that they can participate in class discussions.

Lau Ying Kheng, EdD, has served in Africa and India (with Operation Mobilization) and the Philippines, Hong Kong and Korea (with CRU Singapore) for a number of years. She enjoys speaking and teaching in the region (including a doctoral program in Korea), and discipling women in Singapore through a regular speaking ministry. Her passion is to teach people to create space in their lives for God to speak to them, and use them for His glory.

Equips learners with a biblical theology of leadership that can inform both theory and practice and permit more rigorous biblical evaluation of leadership theories and approaches. The course enables ministry practitioners to develop a rich theological foundation for thinking about issues of leadership in the Christian community.

 

Samuel Too, DMin, served with Cru Singapore for more than 29 years. He and his wife Agnes served in East Asia for ten years before Samuel returned as Missions Head of Cru Singapore. They joined EAST as resident faculty and staff in May 2020. They are blessed with three children. Samuel desires to impart both life and knowledge to his students.

 

Liong Kwok Wai, PhD Studies, has been serving as a staff member of Cru Singapore since 1999. He has ministered among campus students, church planters and community leaders in Singapore and East Asia. He was also involved in training full-time Christian workers and leadership development.
