Henri Nouwen is reckoned by many as one of the greatest spiritual writers of the last century whose continuing impact is felt cross-denominationally and globally. An author of more than 40 books, many of which were bestsellers worldwide, his writings focused on Christian spirituality–our life with God. Nouwen stayed faithful all the way with his missional thrust: to proclaim the gospel and how to flesh it out in our life.
Nouwen’s spirituality is a well-integrated spirituality–one that does not rigidly dichotomize spiritual concepts and methodologies in an “either-or” fashion but promotes a “both-and” mindset. His is a holistic spirituality that centers around the greatest commandment: loving God, loving neighbor and loving self–with its unified but intertwining inward, outward, and upward movements.
This one-day event aims at exposing us to an integrated spiritual life that Nouwen so embodied concretely with the hope that we too can more intentionally endeavor to live a life of love in a way that impacts others and the world around us. In this shared goal, Henri Nouwen stands as our reliable example and guide.

EAST Chapel: Talk Show on Love
The EAST Chapel theme for this semester is “The Greatest Of These Is Love” based on 1 Corinthians 13. Each Chapel Service is organized by a different Mentoring Group (MG) of faculty and students with the freedom of format but focused on the theme.
1 Corinthians 13 begins with: “If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal” (v. 1, NIV). The last chapel service saw the organising MG using a talk show format to creatively introduce the biblical theme of love. There is perhaps no better way to start a semester with a resounding call and timely reminder to love each other selflessly especially within the body of Christ as expressed locally through the EAST community.

EAST Mentoring Group Retreat 2018
How does one experience shalom peace and pray without ceasing in busy Singapore as student, staff, and faculty of a Bible school?
Dr Alex Tang, the plenary speaker, led all at the EAST Mentoring Group Retreat 2018 on a “Spiritual Tune-up” in the first week of the new year. The spiritual formation retreat helps each to discern the different ways one connects with God, to do a check-up of one’s spiritual inventory, and to begin developing a soul-care action plan. Praise God!
