To facilitate an effective learning experience for all, student registrations are subject to class size limits. Registrants will be informed if such limits have been reached for their choice of class/es.


Comparative Asian Religions (Onsite)

19 – 28 November, 9.00 am – 5.00 pm
(from Wednesday to the following Friday, excluding Saturday and Sunday)

Asia is pluralistic with many religions co-existing within the continent. This course introduces and compares the beliefs, values, practices and impact of different religions in Asia. Students will examine the key similarities and differences between these Asian religions and with Christianity. They will also evaluate the implications on Christian missions, evangelism, and discipleship. The goal is to lead students towards a greater level of understanding, analysis, and appropriate approach regarding different Asian religions.

Alvin Tey, PhD, serves as Resident Faculty (Intercultural Studies) in EAST. He concurrently serves with Operation Mobilisation (OM), where he is currently involved in the training, equipping and care of missionaries sent to serve across East Asia. He previously served in OM’s transformational development ministries among poor and marginalized least-reached peoples and communities in Southeast Asia. Alvin is married to Kalene and they have three children, Natalie, Charlotte and Josiah. In his free time, Alvin enjoys history and sports.

 

Study on Gender & Sexuality in Christian Ministry (Online)

Designed to familiarize and challenge students with the questions and concepts in gender and sexuality studies and to examine them critically and biblically, based on the Bible, Christian, and sociological writings. The course will include historical, cultural factors, and trends in gender roles and behavior within various social spheres and institutions. The outcome of the course is to prepare students to understand and minister effectively to a postmodern world with regards to gender and sexuality issues.

Heng Hwee Chuang, DMin, has MACE and DMin degrees from Dallas Theological Seminary (USA). She has more than 30 years of Christian Education experience in creche, children, youth, and adult ministries in the USA, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, and East Asia. Her passion is for Christians to have a clear biblical worldview and be Christ-like servant-leaders in all areas of life.
