Graduate Certificate
Description
The Graduate Certificate is a 30 credit graduate level programme for bachelor's degree holders. It is designed for church members, lay leaders, and Christian workers who want to develop and equip themselves him for more effective Christian service. This programme exposes a student to classes in Bible, Theology, Counselling, Missions, Ministry, and Communication. The credits earned can be applied to a master's degree programme.
The student may choose to complete the more general Graduate Certificate in Christian Ministry for a broad exposure to a wide range of classes. Or he may choose a more focused certificate in one of the following emphases:
- Graduate Certificate in Biblical Studies
Biblical Studies Emphasis - select 12 credits from the following classes:
- BLS500 Biblical Interpretation
- BLS521 Old Testament 1: Genesis - 2 Chronicles
- BLS522 Old Testament 2: Ezra - Malachi
- BLS551 New Testament 1: Gospels & Acts
- BLS552 New Testament 2: Epistles & Revelation
- Other Bible elective classes
- Graduate Certificate in Intercultural Studies
Missions Emphasis - select 12 credits from the following classes:
- ICS501 World Missions
- ICS502 Intercultural Communication
- ICS503 Religions of Asia
- ICS504 Cross-cultural Adjustment
- ICS505 Missionary Anthropology
- ICS508 Tent-making
- ICS509 Missionary Care
- Other ICS electives
- Graduate Certificate in Pastoral Counselling
Pastoral Counselling Emphasis - select 12 credits from the following classes:
- PCM500 Character Development
- PCM501 Personal Assessment
- PCM503 Counselling Theory
- PCM504 Counselling Methods and Techniques
- PCM505 Crisis Counselling
- PCM507 Group Counselling
- PCM510 Christian Marriage and Family
- PCM511 Pre-marital and Marriage Counselling
- PCM512 Family Counselling
Programme Explanation
The student in the Graduate Certificate programme chooses one or two classes from each category:
- Biblical Studies (BLS) - 4 credits
- Theological and Historical Studies (THS) - 4 credits
- Leadership, Ministry, and Communication (LMC) - 4 credits
- Inter-cultural Studies (ICS) - 4 credits
In addition to these 16 credits, the student selects 14 more elective credits. The elective credits can be chosen from a variety of class categories for the broader Graduate Certificate in Christian Ministry. Those who wish to focus on a special area may choose all or most of their elective credits in one of the three special emphases: Pastoral Counselling, Biblical Studies, or Missions. For a Graduate Certificate in a special area of emphasis, at least 12 of the 30 credits would need to be in the chosen area of emphasis.
Admissions Requirements
EAST considers each applicant's qualifications in these five areas:
- Maturity (personal, social, and spiritual)
- Ministry experience
- Leadership ability
- Academic ability
- Academic entry requirement: A bachelor's degree from an accredited or recognized university or college
- Only Singaporeans and Permanent Residents may apply.
