BLS 535 - I & II SAMUEL (4 Credits)
The Book of Samuel is not just a record on the history of Israel. It spells out God's dealing with the nation and the people's struggles in accepting God's leadership and in giving Him His due worship. As a narrative, Samuel achieves this by employing some of the cleverest use of literary devices like plots, repetitions, dialogues, ironies, symbolisms, characterizations, etc. Contemporary readers are sure to find themselves mirrored in the vivid stories. They will discover that whether in dealing with the nation as a whole or in portraying the leadership and devotion of specific individuals - both positively and negatively - the common denominator lies in the heart of the people. Do these people have God in their hearts? That is what matters.
